Vice President Biden called Serbian President Tadic today as part of the Administration’s
ongoing efforts to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Europe.  The two
leaders discussed the upcoming issuance of the advisory opinion of the International Court of
Justice on Kosovo’s declaration of independence.  The Vice President affirmed the United
States’ full support for a democratic and multi-ethnic Kosovo, and he reiterated the United
States’ unwavering commitment to Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.  He urged
the Serbian government to work constructively to resolve practical issues with Kosovo to
improve the lives of the people of Kosovo, Serbia, and of the region. 

The Vice President affirmed the strong and deep ties between the United States and Serbia, and
he praised the bilateral cooperation between our two countries on a wide range of issues.  He
commended President Tadic and the Serbian government’s actions to improve and strengthen
Serbia’s relations with Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The Vice President also warmly
welcomed Serbia’s ongoing commitment to cooperate fully with the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
